DIALOGUE
HELD BETWEEN
THE DOMINICAN HEAD OF STATE AND ALVARO NOBOA.
- May 2004
-
"This
friendship that exists between these two countries of
the Americas… This understanding that exits, is
something which strengthens democracy". Leonel Fernandez,
President-elect of the Dominican Republic.
On
the third day of the "2004
Father’s and Son’s Business Meeting"
the groundwork for a reunion was laid out between Dominican
President-elect Leonel Hernandez and Ecuadorian businessman
Alvaro Noboa. Fernandez and Noboa spoke for about fifteen
minutes.
Alvaro Noboa congratulated the in-coming head of state on
his re-election, a veritable landslide endorsed by the Dominican
population. "I would like to say, on behalf of Ecuador
and the whole world, that there is great joy in the fact
that you have been re-elected, because your excellent leadership
as head of state four years ago is public knowledge. Congratulations.
Leonel Fernandez, who will take over as head of state next
August, expressed his satisfaction regarding the presence
of the businessmen in the Dominican Republic.
Furthermore,
the Ecuadorian businessman showed interest in investing
in the Central American country, "We are very interested
in pineapples and bananas, both regular and organic, because
those Dominicans who live in New York consume plantains
in great quantities."
