On
January 24, Guayaquil added a brilliant page to its history
when over 300,000 Guayaquileños and Ecuadorians
living in the city marched down 9 de Octubre Avenue demanding
the government respect its institutions and defending
autonomous rule for Guayaquil.
Alvaro
Noboa, together with his wife Annabella, members of the
PRIAN governing board and sympathizers took part in the
march, bearing the flag of Guayaquil and receiving the
warm applause and affection of thousands of Guayaquileños
and Ecuadorians as they passed.
As
the media pointed out, Guayaquileños and Ecuadorians
took to the streets to condemn an authoritarian and centralist
government model and to defend a model of liberty, open
competition, free markets, development and social justice.
“Yes to Democracy, no to Dictatorship”, was
the unanimous cry of Guayaquileños and Ecuadorians
present at the march.
