Alvaro Noboa adresses the Nation

28 Noviembre 2007

Ecuadorians:

I have been informed by the media that on Thursday and Friday, and in the following days, democracy in Ecuador will be torn apart during the sessions of the Assembly, generating, consequently, high levels of unemployment, a lack of investment. This will affect your healthcare; this will affect your educational opportunities; and this will increase the level of poverty in Ecuador.

It is very probable that the dollar as a currency will fall due to the crisis we will be facing.

Because of that, Ecuadorians, I do not want to be mixed up in these sessions which are going to hurt you, and therefore, Ecuadorians, I will not attend them. However, in my upcoming addresses to the nation I will put forth proposals for Constitutional rulings by which the economy could be reactivated, employment generated, and problems regarding sidewalks, curbs, the lack of streets, the lack of cement housing in poor neighborhoods, health and education resolved.

This, Ecuadorians, is what I wish for you.

These Constitutional rulings will be presented in the Assembly via the PRIAN bench, however I want to remind you that we are part of a minority; I also want to remind you that I have been fighting on your behalf since 1998 when the presidency was fraudulently stolen from me. I have not been able to attain power, and consequently Ecuador has gone downhill and we are now poised on the brink of disaster.

People of Ecuador; all these years I have been struggling to love and serve you, to give you my best and I will only be present in those sessions in which this occurs; otherwise, Ecuadorians, I will continue to serve you, but you will never see me mixed up in sessions where you are stricken or harmed in any way. May God bless you Ecuadorians.

May our dream for a new Ecuador come true, a great Ecuador, Ecuadorians; where there is housing, healthcare, employment, where there is wealth and social justice. Do not lose hope Ecuadorians.

Onward Ecuador, onward!
