 PRESS RELEASE

AEBE AWARDS THE LUIS A. NOBOA NARANJO PRIZETO THOSE WHO STAND OUT IN THE EXPORT INDUSTRY

Yesterday took place the opening of the XII International Banana Forum 2015, an event in which the Association of Banana Exporters of Ecuador (AEBE), gave a special recognition to people or institutions who have excelled in their duties in favor of the country from various fields.

Guayaquil businessman Alvaro Noboa was commissioned to deliver the first prize named `LUIS NOBOA NARANJO,´ to the former mayor of Machala, Carlos Falquez Batallas, who is known for his work in both the private private sector as a businessman and banana producer as well as in the public sector, since he he has provided work to many Ecuadorian families.

“Shortly after my dad died, they said that the Noboa company would last three years, but here are several generations still working in the Noboa company, always with the lessons of my father, who was also my mentor, the dearest person in my life along with my mother, who taught me economy and said: `Enroll in the law school because they will not teach you anything about economics in college, instead I’ll teach you economics and laws will serve you good´ and he was right; of all these lessons I learned in my life, the most important has been the work. My dad firmly believed that the best way to support a person was not through charity, it was giving him a job and thanks to him and thanks to the 21 years of being in the Noboa Corporation, we are and continue to be the first Ecuadorian banana exports company and we also are as Ecuadorians, the first coffee export company and we are first in many areas. That brings you occasionally an arrest warrant, that brings you occasionally the confiscation of a farm, that brings you from time to time a series of injustices, but none of that matters while my father is in my soul and Ecuador in my heart,” said Alvaro Noboa.

Noboa honored the work exerted by Falquez, whom he distinguished as the eternal mayor of Machala. “Carlos Falquez will always be the Machala Mayor for the respect we have for him. El Oro Province has been and will remain the basis of bananas. (…) The Ecuadorian bananas are the best bananas in the world and we are the first banana producing and exporting country in the world; Please I would like to hear a huge round of applause for our mayor Falquez and a huge applause for his province,” he said.

For his part, the former Machala mayor expressed gratitude before the solidarity gesture of Noboa with the banana province. “I thank you for this gesture of friendship, for this gesture of solidarity with Falquez but above all with El Oro Province, as Alvaro Noboa said, Machala is the banana capital of the world where his father made a lot of investment, a lot of confidence and we have historically got ahead.”

Meanwhile, on Tuesday October 13, Alvaro Noboa externalized his gratitude to the Association of Banana Exporters of Ecuador for having created an award with the name of his father, Luis A. Noboa Naranjo; a recognition that will be delivered each year to those who excel in the export industry.

“I want to thank on behalf of the Noboa Group and the board of the Noboa Exporting Company to the AEBE, for having named my father as a major exporter of bananas in the history of Ecuador. I would also like to thank the AEBE, for creating a prize, a medal and diploma with the name of my father Luis A. Noboa Naranjo to be delivered each year to those who excel in the world of exports.

(Luis A. Noboa Naranjo) He died 21 years ago but continues being present every day in my soul and in the heart of the Noboa Group and all banana producers and Ecuadorians, since he was considered the most important businessman of the twentieth century in Ecuador.Long live Luis A. Noboa Naranjo! Thank you father for everything you taught me.

I would also like to take this opportunity to pay homage to my uncle and godfather Enrique Ponce Luque, who was the founder of the Noboa Banana Company alongside my father and the general representative of the company and who worked all his life in this organization like the brother and brother in law he was, supporting the great banana industry and many businesses of the Noboa Group. Thanks Uncle Enrique, thanks buddy!”
