[VIDEO] Alvaro Noboa’s Speech at the Luis A. Noboa Naranjo Museum

WE ARE DEVELOPING A GREAT CULTURAL REVOLUTION

The inauguration of the exhibition, “PORT” was an opportunity for Álvaro Noboa, founder and President of the Luis A. Noboa Naranjo Museum to highlight the cultural work carried out by the institution.

“This is, today, the only museum in Ecuador that maintains a mission to promote Ecuadorian and international art. It’s been a trajectory of 6 years , 30 expositions and three International Biennales.”

33 national artists participated in the PORT exhibition, of which three are winners of the three Biennales held by the Museum. Jimmy Lara, First Biennale; Juan Caguana, Second Biennale; and René Bohórquez, Third Biennale.

“These young people, who to the number of 33 represent the best of our visual arts, are students from various universities throughout our city, the Universidad Católica, the Universidad de Guayaquil, the Universidad Espíritu Santu. Thanks to them, to all of the artists who participate and visit the Museum and who form part of the Cultural Revolution that we are developing,” stated Álvaro Noboa.

PABLO MARTINEZ: In the name of the Luis A. Noboa Naranjo Museum, we give you the most cordial welcome. As you know, the Luis A. Noboa Naranjo Museum created the “Álvaro Noboa” Biennale of Guayaquil.

The exhibition we have at the moment includes 33 artists, of which three were winners of the three Biennales that we have held here. Jimmy Lara, first Biennale; Juan Caguana, second Biennale; and René Bohórquez, the third Biennale. Besides that, there are José Luis Choez, Loor and Saidel Brito, second place winner of the second Biennale, as well as many other famous artists.

Álvaro Noboa always thanks me for being Director of the Museum, and for organizing these exhibitions. This time I have to thank him, however, because if it wasn’t for his unconditional support, the sponsorship that he gives to the art and culture of Ecuador, we would not have this exhibition.

Here with you, Álvaro Noboa.

ÁLVARO NOBOA:

And returning it once more, I have to give thanks to Pablo Martínez, to the entire team who works with him, to Frida, because on this very day, this is the only museum in Ecuador that maintains a mission to promote Ecuadorian and international art, and Pablo has that desire, that mission, that passion to create exhibitions in this Museum of more than a week, never less than a month. He has even created three Biennales here.

Then, I also want to thank, as well, all the painters who have contributed their work; all those who always attend these exhibitions, because you are the ones who give it life; our models who help make our Museum more beautiful, more interesting, more human. Here is Andrea Pinasco, one of the best models in Ecuador, together with the rest of the models.

Working hard in this mission to transform the country, into a country also of artists like in other parts of the world, like in New York, like in Italy, like in France, like in Japan, like in Cuba. Well then, with these words I will begin my speech.

Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. In the name of the Luis A. Noboa Naranjo Museum, I give you the most cordial welcome to the exhibition that we are presenting today. It is the product of the efforts of all who work here promoting art in our city and particularly here in the Luis A. Noboa Naranjo Museum.

After a trajectory of six years, 30 exhibitions, and three international biennales, today we present a display of the acceptation that our society gives to the visual arts, to all the visual artists, and to all of us who dedicate ourselves to promotion. Many years ago, our grandparents couldn’t imagine that their children would study for a degree in order to become visual artists or musicians.

Between the 50s and 60s, a new tendency was born, to which we belong, which broke through the generation gap and in a self-taught manner was able to impose our music and our art onto the world, leaving it clear that it is a God-given gift and the cause of pride and delight.

We also learned that youth is not a matter of age, but of inspiration and creativity. Those young people who to the number of 33 represent the best of our visual arts are students from various universities throughout our city, the Universidad Católica, the Universidad de Guayaquil, the Universidad Espíritu Santo.

What a joy it is to know that there is a faculty of Fine Arts for our children and grandchildren. They are there as the best students, winners of biennales and salons, like René Bohórquez, Juan Caguana and Jimmy Lara, who are an integral part of the results of the cultural movement that we see developing and that, above all, the Luis A. Noboa Museum welcomes to its rooms, and above all, into the “Álvaro Noboa” Biennales of the city of Guayaquil.

I declare these diverse visual display opened. May all of you be welcome.

I would also like to make a special motion to the spectacular artist and great master, Saidel, who 15 years ago came from Cuba, and who to this very day has led many of the cultural changes in Ecuador. There were even occasions in the Biennales in which students of his have won first place and he has remained in second or third. That is what we want for all our new generations.

I would like my children to go beyond what I have achieved in my life, and in any case, never to abandon their efforts. In the case of Andrea, who is also an artist, she also studied in the School of Art and I hope that she, and all young people like her, will come here to hold their exhibitions and it’s from there that the new masters of the future of Ecuador and the world come, and from there that the new styles will come, the new ways of handling the visual arts.

Thank you very much and thank you once more for all this support that we receive from you.

PABLO MARTINEZ:  Thank you very much, Counselor Álvaro Noboa. As you very well know, Counselor Noboa is a candidate for President of the Republic, and I would like you to give him a round of applause.

The Museum holds events almost every month thanks to the sponsorship of Álvaro Noboa. On this occasion we have 33 artists, as I said before. You can admire these works which are created over as many as three or four months, and we will also be presenting a rock band. Therefore in a few moments we will have Ecuadorian rock and roll music here in the Museum.
