PRESS RELEASE # 02

ALVARO NOBOA DECLARES TO THE COUNTRY “MERCEDITAS I AND II ARE PROPERTY OF VIMARE”

The Ecuadorian businessman Alvaro Noboa, with public deeds, demonstrated to the press, the legitimacy of the VIMARE SA company over the lands located in Puerto Engabao. He clarified that the only valid deeds that exist are those stated in the Municipal Registry of Property and in the Public Registry of Commerce of the Playas County.

According to the document, the Merceditas farms 1 and 2 with 228 hectares and 175 hectares respectively, are stated in the Registry of Property of Playas from August 1, 1983 and the second from December 31, 1987; and alongside such documents, the certificates and respective payments.

“I want to show to the people of Ecuador, the only valid deeds that exist of both farms that are adjacent to Engabao: Merceditas 1 and Merceditas 2. This is the Merceditas 2 deed, here it is, here is the tax payment we have made to date and the certificate of the Registry of Property, certifying that to date, this property belongs to VIMARE. This farm has an extension of 175 hectares. The same with Merceditas 1, a farm that is next to Merceditas 2, of 228 hectares, here’s the deed, this farm has been over thirty years in our possession, and here I have the certificate of the Registry of Property and the tax payments up to date. “

He added that so far, the Vimare company has not yet gone to trial or has any court order that delegitimizes its right to these lands.

“Anyone who has aspirations to these lands can go to court and file a claim, so far I have no not gone to trial, anyone from the Commune of Engabao or any third party has casted dount on these deeds. Therefore, the municipality continues charging taxes to the company, the Registry of Property continues certifying that this property is ours. “

Noboa stressed that “the only one who can decide is a judge and not the Minister of Agriculture, nor the Governor, nor the Minister of Interior.” He adding that the day on which the Governor of Guayas with several government officials and a squad of policemen moved toward his lands to break the wall and evict his staff, he had not received any notification about this procedure, whom he calls “illegal.” “We did not receive a single paper and the unique document that is valid is that of a judge,” he concluded.
