Álvaro Noboa Delivers Letter To The Mission Of Electoral Observation Of The OAS

During his visit to the capital city, PRIAN Presidential candidate, Álvaro Noboa delivered a denunciation of his political persecution by the Ecuadorian government to Dr. Rafael Albuquerque, the head of the Electoral Observation Mission of the OAS.

I complained to him (Rafael Albuquerque) of this electoral campaign being unequal and undemocratic. That I am, at this moment, running with a prohibition against leaving the country, which means that I am unable to visit the emigrants. That in order to persecute me, they have invented a demand of taxes on two hundred and some millions of dollars against a company of the Noboa Group, when the sales were less , that is, there were no running costs – It’s all a huge lie! – to come up with a tax of $49 million dollars plus interests, which is some 150 times more than they collected from Dole, my North American competitor who operates in this country and is larger than Bananera Noboa.  That, besides which, when Bananera Noboa appealed to a judge (Posligua) to ask for protection, they imprisoned him and the judge is still in prison.”

Via the letter that he sent to the Electoral Observation Mission of the OAS, Noboa stated that this electoral campaign is biased against the Presidential hopefuls of Ecuador, except for the incumbent candidate who makes use of all the seized media in order to promote himself to a greater extent than the other candidates, which puts them all at a clear disadvantage.

“Besides which, the electoral race is biased, because Economist (Rafael) Correa has at his command all the seized communications media, all the State media.  He also uses State tools in order to carry out his campaign, which means that he has a hundred times more exposure than any other challenger.  Therefore, this election is not a democratic election, and I am being politically persecuted. Nevertheless, I am here, running to be President of Ecuador, in defense of the Ecuadorian middle class, and of the poor Ecuadorians who lack basic goods that have shot up in price due to taxes; who suffer because their income is not sufficient because the cost of living is now at US $500; who suffer because of crime; and who, across the country, reject the acts of corruption committed by this Government,”  ended Noboa.

Statements Of Álvaro Noboa  Letter OEA- Quito

I am here in Quito, in the Southern District, and I am going to read to Ecuadorians the letter that I delivered personally to Dr. Rafael Albuquerque, Head of the Electoral Observation Mission of the OAS, Quito.

I complained to him that this electoral campaign is unequal and undemocratic; that, at the moment, I am running with a prohibition against me for leaving the country, and therefore I am unable to visit the immigrants.

That in order to persecute me, they have come up with a demand against a Grupo Noboa company in the year 2005 on two hundred and some million in profits when the sales were less, that is, there would not be any costs, it’s a big lie, producing taxes of $49 million dollars plus interest. That is 150 times more than they charged Dole, which is larger than Bananera Noboa, besides which, when Bananera Noboa appealed for protection to a judge, Judge Posligua was imprisoned.
